Big Exciting News
Kelly's Big Exciting News!
As the subject said, I have big exciting news. I'm not sure the best way to tell it, so I'm going to give you the short version, and then I'm going to give you the long version that hopefully answers the questions that the short version brings up. Here goes!!!! (suspense suspense suspense.....are you waiting with bated breath?)
No, I'm not engaged.
No, I haven't “met someone.”
No, this has nothing to do with a boy.
ARE YOU READY???????
OK, Here's the short version:
I'M JOINING THE STAFF TEAM OF MOUNTAINVIEW INTERNATIONAL CHURCH IN MADRID!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty cool, huh? A million questions? Ok, I'm going to put the long version into question and answer format. If I miss anything and you have a question, PLEASE contact me so we can talk! Here goes:
How do I find more info about Mountainview?
Easy. www.mountainview-church.com.
Will you be leaving Impact Ministries?
Yes, I am leaving Impact staff to join Christian Associates, the church planting organization that the rest of the Mountainview staff works for. I have discussed this with the leadership in Impact and have their support in the move. I love my Impact family very much and will be maintaining a close relationship with them, but all sides agree that the best thing for me would be to switch to Christian Associates.
I'll be letting you guys know a lot more about Christian Associates in the next few weeks, but the big picture is that it is a church planting organization whose mission is to reach the unchurched through the multiplication of high-impact leaders and high-impact churches. Pretty cool, huh? As I've said, I'll give more info in another letter soon to come, but you can also go to www.christianassociates.org to find out more about this awesome organization.
Will you still need financial support?
YES!!! My support situation will be exactly the same as it is now, except the support will come through Christian Associates rather than Impact. AS OF RIGHT NOW, DON'T CHANGE WHAT YOU DO! Still send the support to Impact, and I'll be calling you in the next couple weeks to let you know the next step.
When is all this happening?
The ball is rolling as we speak! I've been officially invited to join Christian Associates, so this summer I will be working on making the transition, and I'm already jumping into planning for my future with Mountainview International Church. As far as the financial switch and all that goes, I'll pass along details as they get figured out. :)
Why are you doing this?
Because I see that this is where God is leading me and where I can serve Him best.
Most of the ministry opportunities I've had in the last year and a half have been through Mountainview. I have been able to really explore what God is doing in Madrid and learn how to glorify Him the best I can through the unique gifts He has given me. I've become more and more passionate about the city center—doing ministry in our community. Being church right where we are. Community groups, leadership development, large group gatherings like the Oasis gathering in the city center and the Mountainview Service in the suburbs, and a group of friends that is committed to spending time together and making real effort to reach out to unchurched people are some of the things that I have been able to plug into at Mountainview. In the past six months, we have started a “studio time” in my apartment, with the goal of having permanent studio space, and out of that my passion for reaching out to the artistic community and to worship God with creativity has really been fostered.
As most of you know, one of the things that I've been praying for the past year has been a team. I know God wants me in Madrid, but I also value working in a team and really believe that God means for us to minister in community, not by ourselves. After 1 ½ years in Madrid working closely with Mountainview, I can confidently say that this is a team who loves God with all their hearts and is passionate about reaching unchurched people. On top of that, we have a blast together—they're fun to work with! At the same time that I've been growing closer to Mountainview, a need for staff in the city center has developed, and I believe this is something God has been preparing me for.
What will you be doing?
I'm going to be a contact person in the city for Mountainview's Oasis ministry, a ministry focused on young internationals living in the city center. My four main focus areas with Oasis will be leadership development, community group development, leading the team that puts together the monthly Oasis gathering, and creative arts ministry. A lot of what I'll be doing is more of what I'm doing already with Mountainview—alot more of the stuff I've been talking about in my last several newsletters.
How can I pray for you?
Glad you asked!
1—Praise God for my team! I'm so excited to be officially on staff with Mountainview now—I feel like I'm home
2—Pray for logistical wisdom in how to switch things over from one organization to
another, and that I'll be able to communicate clearly with my supporters.
3—Pray for continued financial provision—I'm coming home next week to start furlough,
and need to raise my support level to keep up with increased cost of living.
So there's my big exciting news!!!!! See, I told you it wasn't about a boy. Thank you so much for your love and support. I look forward to seeing you while I'm home this summer!
Love,
Kelly
