January 2006 Update
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
I hope that everyone’s Christmas and New Years celebrations were fun and that you feel rested and ready to start the new year. And if not, well, it started anyway, without your permission. Time has a way of doing that!
December was a fun, crazy month here in Madrid. I spent much of my free time settling back in and unpacking all the stuff that has been in boxes since September (2 to go and it’s done! Although those 2 have been left for the past 3 weeks, so I can’t say I’ve been diligently trying to do anything about it). Here are some highlights from the month:
Our community group has been going well—we have dubbed ourselves “the school of prayer” and have been spending lots of time talking about prayer and actually doing it—it’s been a great thing to do in combination with the 40 days of prayer for our church that we just finished. Being away for so long made me realize how much I have come to love my community group here and how glad I am to be back!
Our Christmas brunch service with Mountainview on December 18th went really well and was lots of fun. It was nice to get to lead worship again! The rest of the week I was trapped in my apartment waiting for the plumber to finish tearing apart and putting back together my bathroom (see more at http://kellywills.blogspot.com/2005/12/el-fontanero.html), and then on Christmas eve and Christmas day, I spent the weekend with Troy and Heather Cady (Troy’s my team leader) and their kids, Nic and Meg. April and Kelly Crull (some friends who live on the coast) were there as well, and a couple other families came out for a movie on Christmas eve and for Christmas dinner. Troy told the Christmas story using Godly Play figures, and adults and children were all fascinated. It was a great Christmas.
And coming up….
Oasis Madrid starts in January with having two large group gatherings in the city center each month instead of just one. We’re excited about the change and even more excited to see where God is leading us. Also, starting in January, the leadership community of Oasis Madrid will be meeting regularly to dream together what God has for our future and what we are about as a church.
Amy Swacina, from the U.S., is coming to do a one year internship with us here in Madrid. She arrives this Friday (January 6), so you can definitely be praying for her as she travels and as she adjusts to a new culture.
Thanks so much for your support and prayers. I’m excited about this new year and about how God is working in my heart and here in Madrid.
Peace,
Kelly
